FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can coach?
Any adult 18 years or older may coach. Every volunteer must have an approved background check.
I said "YES!" What do I do now?
Use the link above to register as a coach or assistant coach. Please ensure that your phone number and email address are correct as Board Members will be contacting you throughout the season. Email your Vice Commissioner and make them aware of your intent to coach a team.
Where do I get uniforms?
Teams are responsible for coordinating their own uniforms. Each player must have a matching shirt with a number on the back at least four inches in height. For safety, players' names or nicknames may not be on the uniform. Local vendors and online vendors are great sources of ordering uniforms. Contact the Treasurer prior to ordering if your team has received a sponsorship. All checks must be payable to MSA in order to provide Tax Donation Letter to the sponsor.
Where can I practice?
In the Coaches Packet, you will find a document that lists all of the city's parks and recreational areas. It also lists prohibited areas. No practices may be held on the fields used for games or parks reserved for club teams. As a coach, you have the privilege of selecting your practice locations and times. No weekday practice may begin prior to 5:30pm.
Can I request game dates off?
Due to the high number of teams in MSA, we are unable to accommodate all requested dates off. Therefore, the only reasons a request would be granted is if your team is attending a NTSSA Sanctioned tournament or if a school event prevents you from being able to field a team. All coaches are encouraged to select an assistant coach in the event they are unable to attend a game. Email your Vice Commissioner of any schedule requests at least seven days prior to the date.
I coach two teams; will their games be at the same time?
A person who is the head coach of two teams will never have both games at the same time and will be given ample time to travel between parks. Unfortunately, this can not be accommodated for assistant coaches. Email both of your Vice Commissioners and make them aware of your intent to coach two teams.
The schedule was released and I see a problem!
Look over the entire schedule and notify the Park Commissioner immediately if you notice an error. Mistakes happen and ample time will be needed to reschedule the game. In the event your team is scheduled two games on one day, please ensure that you have at least one time slot between the games. No team shall have more than two games on one day.
Where can I find the playing rules?
All coaches are responsible for knowing MSA's rules as well as the playing rules. If you have any questions regarding a rule, please contact your Vice Commissioner.
